The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine had recently completed construction of a new atrium building
within an existing court yard. Unfortunately the designers had not taken into consideration the difficulty of
cleaning such a large expanse of glass within a very confined space... Several cleaning companies had submitted proposals to us, which included the use of abseiling and cherry pickers. However, none of these approaches proved practical or capable of delivering the very high standard of cleaning we require. BEE Services who were contracted to clean our main building and were confident that they could carry out the cleaning by using a “reach and wash” system. Their solution included a demonstration on how the under floor cabling and walls would be protected from water damage which was of critical concern to us. The initial contract was completed to a very high standard and we have now asked BEE Services to carry out this operation on an ongoing basis. We have had four office cleaning companies in the previous ten years, each promising to solve the poor standards
of their predecessor. None had achieved the level of cleanliness we require. BEE Services' solution included additional on-site management to ensure the appropriate level of day-to-day supervision, together with weekly visits by their Directors to meet with us, their Contract Manager and staff. This regular review of our requirements and their attention to detail has finally delivered the required standard of cleaning. All this was achieved without increasing costs. Our contract with BEE Services is now in its third year. We originally engaged them at our Head Offices in
London, where there were many issues, both with the service and staff of our previous office cleaning
contractor. BEE Services' addressed the issues with the staff they inherited using an effective combination of intense, hands-on supervision and modern HR practices. Under their management, the standard of office cleaning has improved to the required level and we have now given them responsibility for our other buildings in Harrow and Windsor. We originally employed our own in-house cleaning staff. However, this was not delivering the standard of
cleaning required in an environment as demanding as a school. In addition, it had proved difficult for us to
adapt to the new working practices required for a modern cleaning service. BEE Services handled the Transfer of Undertakings/Protection of Employment (TUPE) with skill and sensitivity. Our cleaning standards have been continuously raised and are now at the level required by our school.
